Nokia N8 HD video is jaw dropping

Wow.
Seriously, I am just utterly speechless right now because this is pretty incredible.

Yesterday, Nokia announced the N8 which certainly will become their next flagship phone. It features a 12 mega pixel camera along with their new Symbian^3 operating system. While those are both exciting, it also allows you to capture video in 720p which, as you will see, produces some pretty amazing stuff.

And that’s not even the part that wow’s me the most.

The fact that this video came from a phone is absolutely breathtaking and exciting. This also goes back to the point I made yesterday that Nokia really can cook up amazing hardware; they just need to do something about the software aspects of their phones.

Nokia Conversations, which is Nokia’s official blog, says this about the video:

Here is the first HD video sample captured on the upcoming Nokia N8, shot in 720p. This amazing footage of a dancer on a rooftop has not been enhanced or tweaked in any way. It was taken on a device that is not yet running final software.

Watch, and imagine what kind of stuff you could film in San Francisco. Considering how many friends of mine love photography and film, the possibilities are endless when you can pull a camera like this out of your pocket and shoot.

The Nokia N8 won’t be out locally until Q3 of this year but I have a feeling more than a few of you in SF, at least after watching this video, might give it a whirl. You can find other Nokia phones locally if you head here.

Enjoy.

Mobile Phones Running Symbian^3

News: Nokia N8 Officially Announced

Nokia has finally accepted and acknowledged the existence of its next generation Symbian smartphone - the N8. The phone has had its specifications leaked just a day ago and it seems, Nokia has had enough. The company has announced the phone officially. The N8 has been in the news lately and it was just yesterday that the first reviews of the handset surfaced. Just a few hours later, a document detailing the phones spec sheet was revealed.

Now that the phone has been made official, let's see what it has in store for you the potential buyer. The N8 happens to be Nokia's first 12 megapixel camera phone - complete with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and a large sensor that, according to Nokia, rivals those found in compact digital cameras. The N8 is also the first Nokia device to support HD Video recording. The N8 also features a built-in video editing suite - the effectiveness of which we're unsure of. The phone supports Dolby Digital Plus surround sound and users can connect it to their home theatre system. Contrary to the expectation that it would come with 64GB of internal memory, it will ship with "just" 16GB of in-built storage space. With MicroSD slots, the memory is expandable up to 48GB.

Unlike the last Symbian based flagship, the N97, the N8 runs the latest version of the Symbian OS - Symbian ^3. While they share quite a few visual cues, S60 Version5 and Symbian^3 are two different operating systems. Symbian^3 supports multitouch (although as of now we're unsure if it has been used effectively on the N8), flick scrolling and pinch-zoom. The Nokia N8 also offers multiple, personalizable homescreens which can be loaded with apps and widgets. The new 2D and 3D graphics architecture in the platform takes full advantage of the Nokia N8's hardware acceleration to deliver a faster and more responsive user interface. Symbian^3 also raises the bar in performance by delivering greater memory management allowing more applications to run in parallel for a faster multi-tasking experience. It remains to be seen how much of an actual enhancement does Symbian^3 bring to the end user experience.

The N8 is fully social networking ready. Users can update their status, share location and photos, and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly on the home screen. Calendar events from social networks can also be transferred to the device calendar.

The phone has a 3.5-inch capacitive screen with a 360x640 resolution. While the resolution might not be very high compared to Android based devices, the AMOLED display will make it look quite impressive. The device in its prototype avatar had a non standard sized HDMI port, we seriously hope this has been rectified in the final version. Even with all these features, the phone manges to stay quite slim at just 12.9 mm thin!

The N8 will be available in select markets during the third quarter of 2010. It is estimated to be priced at around the EUR 370 (Rs. 22,000) mark. This is the price minus taxes or subsidies. Also, it would be outright foolish to expect this phone to be priced below the 25k mark in India - so don't get your hopes too high.

Nokia N8 Disappointing: First Reviews

Techtree News Staff, Apr 26, 2010 1800 hrs IST Eldar Murtazin of Mobile Review bashes Nokia's upcoming flagship

It was supposed to be Nokia's next big thing after the N97 and the N900. It could have had all the features going for it that would have made it the most desirable handset money could buy - but, Nokia has given it away and what could have been a great opportunity to reclaim the "best smartphone crown", now lies in tatters. Well, we're not saying it! In fact, the phone which we are on about hasn't even been officially announced by Nokia. We're talking about the Nokia N8, the much awaited flagship device from Nokia - the existence of which is known to all - with everyone else except Nokia acknowledging its existence.

Anyway, the usual suspect Eldar Murtazin of Mobile Review seems to have chanced upon a prototype or early build of the N8 which he reviewed extensively. If you thought, with the latest Symbian^3 OS and the new features has made the N8 drool worthy, prepare to be disappointed. Eldar has virtually lampooned Nokia and the N8 and has termed the phone to be very disappointing. The drawbacks of the phone range from not so great features and an absolutely uninspiring UI which he says is nothing but a cosmetically enhanced S60v5 UI. On the features front too, the phone is on par with existing handsets. The 12 megapixel camera, according to him, is slightly better than that the one on the Satio and the fact that it supports HD video recording doesn't turn any heads either. HD video recording has been in town for the past year or so. The phone is praised for being extremely fast - but only of you keep its memory relatively clutter free. Once you start filling those flash memory chips, the phone struggles to wade through menus. In our opinion, this bit can be fixed using a firmware update - but then, these issues should not crop up on a flagship handset, even with an early firmware.

Eldar has also said that the much touted HDMI port on the phone is virtually unusable. This is because it is not your "ordinary" port and is smaller than the usual ones and will not work with existing HDMI cables. He goes on to add that he is flabbergasted as to why Nokia has chosen this weird HDMI solution. In all, Eldar has come quite heavily on the N8. While he adds that Nokia will be able to sell the phone - thanks to its advertisement prowess, he sees this effort from a Nokia being incapable of the threat posed by newer phones based on Android and even the Bada OS which have started looking more contemporary than Symbian.

Mobile Tip 4: How to Transfer Music Files to Your Mobile Phone through Synchronization

Usually we are fond of shortcuts esp. the "Copy Paste" method. If we want to transfer the music files to our mobile phone we just simply copy the files then paste to the destination folders on our memory card. This method is good if we are sure that the files we are copying are not corrupted or have no broken parts. We should be aware of what we are copying since or mobile phone library is sensitive when it comes to corrupted data. This may lead to corrupt the normal functionality of our phone that if we cannot do any remedy we just format our memory card.

One of the best ways to avoid transferring corrupted music files to our mobile phone is to sync the music files. Follow the steps on how to sync your music files to your phone.

Note: Please see to it that you have at least Windows Media Player 11 or higher.

1. On your PC put all your music files in one folder.
2. Connect your mobile phone to your PC via PC Suite
3. Highlight all the files you want to be sync (If all files to be selected usually pressing "Control A").
4. Right click, select Windows Media Player to play all the songs you have selected
5. Then on the "Sync" tab of Media Player select Sync "Now playing" to "XXX" Memory Card (where XXX is your phone model. Select Sync "Now Playing" to Phone memory if you want to save the music files to your phone memory).
6. To see the synchronization progress click the Sync tab of media player.
7. Check all the file status. If you found error status of a certain file it means that the file is either corrupted or has an error on encoding. Do not copy the corrupted files just look for another source and do the sync process again

After sync is completed, go to your memory card or wherever you have sync your music files. You will notice that all songs are organized by folder usually by the song artist name.

News: Nokia N8 delayed, possibly coming to O2 UK. Nokia X5 gets mentioned

According to GSM Arena, Nokia initially planned to unveil the new Nseries handset in May. However, for some unknown reasons, the launch date has been pushed back to mid-July. Since Nokia N8 should run Symbian^3, this might have something do to with the fact that the new OS is not yet ready to hit the market.

Another interesting piece of info is that the N8 (Nokia’s first 12MP camera phone) might be launched in he UK via O2.

Even more interesting is this new image of the Nokia N8, which no one seems to have noticed until now (via MobiFlip):

Nseries aside, Nokia is readying a new Xseries device, too: the Nokia X5 (RM-627).

(image via ePrice)

The Nokia X5 will have GSM/WCDMA connectivity and Bluetooth – and NokiaPort says that it also has CDMA connectivity. We’ll bring more details on the N8 and X5 as soon as we get them.

How to Fix Your Mobile Music Library Error (Tip:3)

Transferring corrupted files or unknown files to your mobile may corrupt your memory card. This usually leads to error that hides the contents of your library such as music or image and video files. Thus when you open your music or image and video library the contents are gone but still it consumes space on your memory card. Or there might be case that not all of your music files are visible or accessible to your music library but when you go to your memory card your music files are still complete. The other way around you may encounter that when you added new music files and refresh your library the refresh never stops and no files added. Some users find it dead end that they have no choice but to format their memory card and start all over again transferring and installing the files to their memory card. To solve this issue without reformatting your memory card follow the steps.

1. Connect your phone to your PC through "Mass Storage" USB Connection Mode
2. Open your Memory Card directory
3. Open "Private" folder
4. Look for "101ffca9" folder
5. Delete the "harvesterdv9_2.dat" or related to this file
6. Reboot or restart your phone
7. Go to your music library refresh your library ("Refresh library")
