How to Protect Your Mobile Phone using Lock Code (Tip: 2)

Turning on your lock code will protect your phone from unauthorized access or using your phone such as inserting other SIM cards or Turning ON and OFF your mobile phone. It gives you also security level (though there is a way of reformatting your phone without your lock code but this cannot be done by ordinary user) in case your phone is stolen. If they will change the SIM card of your phone it will prompt them to enter the lock code which you have set. If they cannot provide the correct lock code they cannot use your mobile phone.

Follow the steps on how to enable your lock code.

1. Open your Settings Menu
2. Select Phone
3. Select Phone Management
4. Select Security
5. Select Phone and SIM Card
6. If you haven't set your lock code its default is 12345. Select Lock Code. Enter your lock code. Enter new lock code then enter your Verified new lock code. If successfully changed a pop message will confirm you that you have changed it successfully.
7. Select Lock if SIM card changed. Set to Yes
8. Optionally you can set Remote phone locking to Enable status.

To test if security will take effect, change your phone SIM card. Your Phone will then ask the lock code. If you have entered your lock code your phone will remember the newly entered SIM card as authorized therefore the second time around it will no longer ask for a lock code. Interestingly when you turn off and turn on your mobile phone it will naturally ask your lock code.

Note: Entering wrong lock code several times will NOT block your phone. Lock code is not like SIM PIN Code that will block your SIM after several attempts of entering incorrect PIN Code.

Below are the screen shots on how to set up your lock code.

How to Activate Your Call Waiting: (Tip 1)

Call Waiting is a feature of voice call service where a party who is currently engaged in a call can still receive an incoming call. If call waiting is not activated and the other party wants to reach you and you are currently engaged in call then the person calling to you can see "Number Busy" prompting on his/her phone display. He/she may not allow to make a call to you. Just activate your call waiting to receive a call even if your number is busy. This feature is very useful in case the person calling to you has emergency or important purpose. A beep sound will just be heard in case there is another incoming call. Here are the steps:

1. Open your Call Settings
2. Look for Call menu
3. Open and find the Call waiting menu
4. On the options select Activate. A confirmation message will pop up then that call waiting is activated

What is S60 5th Edition?

The new version of S60, built on Symbian OS 9.4, adds touch enablers to the platform, which means it is possible for licensees to create devices that use finger touch and/or stylus interaction. Other additions and improvements include the new sensor framework (adds easy integration of sensors, such as accelerometers into the platform) updated web technologies (WebKit version updated, Flash Lite 3 as standard) and enhanced multimedia functionality (support for widescreen displays, image and video editors as standard). Read on for more details.

Key highlights of S60 5th Edition

  • Based on Symbian OS 9.4, which brings a host of OS level improvements, which should increase performance and battery life. The OS is also the enabler for many of the technologies described below.
  • Adds touch enablers and tactile feedback to S60. The UI is designed to be used with finger touch or a stylus. The UI and base applications have been optimised for touch usage. Tactile feedback gives a physical signal to the user (buzz/vibrate) when an on screen interaction takes place.

  • Standard S60 applications have been extended and optimised to take advantage of touch interactions.
  • In order to help enable touchscreen devices there is enhanced support for higher resolution displays and a new 'widescreen' mode.
  • Adds a framework to enable the use of sensors in the UI and by third parties. Such sensors might include accelerometers, which enable functionality such as 'flip to silence' or 'shake to unlock'. Third party access is enable by APIs which are available in the software development kit.
  • Enhanced support for Internet technologies, including an updated Web browser (more recent version of WebKit) and Flash Lite 3. The browser has been optimised for touch usage, including the ability to scroll around the screen using a finger and finger touch-friendly toolbars and controls.
  • Adds S60 Platform Services to the S60 Web Runtime (also known as WRT 2). This enables the creation of personalised and context-aware widgets. This gives widget developers access to many features of the S60 platform, including GPS, contacts, calendar, messaging, audio and video. These are accessed via custom javascript and actionscript API calls.
  • Adds new image and video editors (i.e. now standard part of platform), making it simpler to edit media on the device. The image editor functions include red-eye reduction, cropping, image adjustments and the ability to add text and images. The video editor lets you cut, merge and add sound to videos stored on the device.
  • Adds Open C++ (following on from Open C) to the platform. This brings the Standard Template Library (STL) and other popular platform-independent C++ libraries to S60.

Mobile Phones Running S60 5th Edition

Nokia to release mobile phones running Symbian^3 & Symbian^4

Goodbye to S60 3rd and 5th Editions. Welcome new versions of Symbian OS:

Symbian^2
Symbian^3
Symbian^4

Nokia announced already devices to run on these platforms. Basically, S60 5th Edition is the base of the upcoming versions. In fact S60 5th Edition is called Symbian^1.

Nokia will focus on getting Symbian^3 phones to market. Symbian^3 this is the first fully open source version of Symbian, following the completion of the release of the entire Symbian codebase earlier. The Symbian^3 release introduced new features such as HDMI support, a new 2D and 3D graphics architecture, and UI improvements.

The upcoming mobile phones includes:

Nokia X10. It's feature includes 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, 5-Megapixel camera with LED flash, a choice of 16GB or 32GB internal memory, 256MB of RAM, HSDPA support, Wi-Fi, GPS and support for multiple Homescreens.

Nokia E7. No mention of processor speed at this stage but memory will consist of 256MB or RAM, 1024MB of ROM. The rumor rounds out with a claim of launch and on-sale of July 2010.

Nokia N8-00 12MP. 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and HDMI output.

On the other hand Nokia X9 will run Symbian^4. The Nokia X9 is believed to be the successor to the Nokia X6, complete with a 1GHz Cortex A8 chipset, 12-megapixel camera with LED flash, HDMI and a 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.

Elsewhere there’s HSDPA, WiFi and aGPS, along with 32GB of onboard storage and a 3.5mm headphone socket. The Symbian^4 device is expected to be capable of 720p HD video recording, and has some nifty social networking status updates too – along the bottom of that sizeable display run a series of icons for Twitter, Facebook, calls and messages, with a number indicating how many are unread or unanswered.

Why there's no Symbian Operating System S60 4th Edition?

Well after Symbian OS 3rd edition, In October 2008, S60 5th Edition was launched. (Nokia decided to move from 3rd Edition directly to 5th Edition "as a polite gesture to Asian customers", because the number four means bad luck in some Asian cultures). S60 5th Edition runs on Symbian OS version 9.4. The major feature of 5th Edition is support for high-resolution 640x360 touchscreens; before 5th Edition, all S60 devices had a button-based user interface. S60 5th Edition also integrates standard C/C++ APIs and includes Adobe Flash Lite 3.0 with S60-specific ActionScript extensions that give Flash Lite developers access to phone features like contacts, text messaging, sensors and device location information (GPS).

The S60 5th Edition is the last edition of S60. Its assets along with Symbian OS, UIQ and MOAP(S) have been used as a base for Symbian, an open source operating system being developed by the Symbian Foundation. The first edition of Symbian, Symbian^1, uses S60 5th Edition on top of Symbian OS 9.4 as its base.
