Software update 1.1 for new Symbian devices

GLOBAL –Nokia today releases software update 1.1 for the new Symbian devices – the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01. While the new Symbian software offered great performance and features from launch, the updates will make it even smoother to use.
Most of the updated features are not directly visible to end users, but together, they will enhance the user experience of each Symbian device. Both the quality and the stability of the devices will be further enhanced. In addition to numerous tweaks and fixes, there’s also some new content. More details below.

  1. Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations;
  2. Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.
  3. For Nokia N8 users:
    a. New Quick Office 6.4 editor version, which offers editing possibilities and allows zooming in & out in Word documents.
    b. Three high quality games will also be preloaded on new devices – Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire. (In some countries, Need for Speed is replaced with Asphalt 5). For current N8 users, these are available for free from Ovi Suite & Ovi Store.
You’ll be able get the update through Software Update on your device or using Ovi Suite. We’re warned that the update may be quite a large download, especially for Nokia N8 users. So make sure you’re on a free WiFi service when you choose to update or use Ovi Suite to install it.
The standard, non-customised version of the software is available from today. Country (SIM-free) and operator-specific variants will follow soon.
We continue to enhance our smartphone experience throughout the 2011. Today’s update is by far not the last one you will see – be assured that there are further goodies on the way.

New Multitasking UI for Symbian 3 leaked ???

At first glance you might be looking at a pretty picture of these beatiful looking Nokia E7 with Qt quick demo apps, but after closer inspection the silver E7 in the left might be sporting a new UI for multitasking, now remember the E7 runs Symbian 3 and multitasking is definitely not like it is pictured on the photo above. In fact the UI resembles the one found on the Nokia N900 running Maemo.
Multitasking in Symbian 3
So could the supposed UI refresh in the software updates that are coming to Symbian 3 devices holding up the Nokia E7 since it was supposed to be released last December ?
If Nokia are true to their word and a UI refresh is coming ( I am not holding my breath) I expect it to come in small bits rather than in a whole chunk.
only time will tell.
thanks to Deaconclgi for the heads up :-)

About “My Dream Nokia”

I’m sure you’ve dreamt up your PERFECT Nokia device. What it would look like, what it would feel like, what features it would have. Why don’t you share it with the world? Or at least with other Nokia fans :D .
It could be your own photoshopped or rendered work (seriously, you don’t need mega skills in either, basic paint job is often enough to convey a concept) of your dream product.
SEND this in similarly to tips@mynokiablog.com with the title “My Dream Nokia” and perhaps the model number (and a little description, maybe a few specs in the message area? Though this bit not necessary).
Who knows, maybe an image might flutter over to Nokia and through whatever route end up being real.

My Dream Nokia #15: Nokia Leafpad, 10″ CBD AMOLED MeeGo Tablet Concept

My Dream Nokia #15 is our first tablet design (well, not including My Dream Nokia #5 that was a fold up phone/tablet transformer). This is the Nokia Leafpad (yeah like the text editor for the geekier amongst you), another sent in to Shihuzaan’s growing portfolio here. As you can see, it has leaf-inspired look that became a head turner back in the days of the 7600 and legendary 7610 with that curvy-sharp edge mix.
These are the Nokia Leadpad Specifications:
  • * 10″ CBD Super AMOLED display (1024 x 768 resolution)
  • * 1080p playback
  • * Meego tablet edition
  • * 2 mp front facing camera.
  • * capacitive multi touch screen.
  • * HDMI( with Dolby Digital Plus)
  • * 2 USB ports
  • * Micro-SD reader
  • * battery life must be more than 10 hrs.<< This is possibly one of the most important “features” I’m looking for in a tablet. At least 8h battery.
  • * 512mb RAM
  • * 32 GB internal
  • * Intel’s 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor
  • * WiFi , 3G , 4G , WiMax , SIM card slot
  • * Bluetooth 3
The back quite suits the over all look, with smooth curves tapering to the rear (as opposed to being a sharp flat sandwich). There’s something extra too as that rectangle design

It opens up as a kickstand! More pics in the gallery below. What do you reckon?

My Dream Nokia #14: Nokia MeeGo Phone Concept Nokia N14

Here’s the latest design by shihuzaan for My Dream Nokia #14 (same designer for N11 and N12). It is a Nokia MeeGo phone concept with a somewhat Nexus One-esque/Nokia Prism feel.
This piece was more to show off the design and as such the specifications are what you’d expect from MeeGo phone. It looks a little thick in the top photo but only possibly from that angle.
If you check out side view it’s very slim. This makes me quite excited for the real MeeGo phone.
BTW, offtopic – unless the view counter is broken – possibly due to the blog move, we crossed a threshold today for over 30,000 views! Equally surprising: we some how we nearly reached 30k on three occasions in the past 7 days but never actually over 30k (i.e. 29.4k, 28.9k, 28.7k). Very overwhelming – thank you guys! Now this is just a blip though we hope we’ll be able to reach close to this on a more regular basis in future.
Anyway: Nokia N14 specs:
  • MeeGo 1.2
  • Anodized Aluminium casing
  • CBD 4″ Super AMOLED display (800×480 pixels)
  • 8mp carl zens camera (Auto focus)
  • Xenon flash
  • 1Ghz processor
  • 512 RAM
  • Bluetooth 3
  • 16GB Internal
  • Micro-SD Reader
  • capacitive multi touch screen
  • removable battery

My Dream Nokia #12: Super Slim Symbian Tilt QWERTY-touch hybrid, Nokia N12

My Dream Nokia Number #12 comes from shihuzaan who also previously sent the My Dream Nokia #11 N11 design.
This one has a non-traditional slim candy bar look with that kind of Nokia 7610 cut on the side. However, this isn’t a slim candybar.
This is a super slim tilt QWERTY slider! The non symmetrical nature of the closed form means the screen is much closer to the keyboard so just that little bit closer for thumb pressing
Specs are quite realistic. Nothing out of the ordinary here and something Nokia could easily pull off.  It’s pretty much E7i
  • colors: white/black
  • Symbian
  • 2 surround speakers.
  • 8 mp camera (HD video recording)
  • 1Ghz processor
  • 512 RAM
  • Bluetooth 3
  • 16GB Internal
  • Micro-SD Reader
  • CBD 4″ AMOLED (high resolution)
  • capacitive multi touch screen
  • Dolby digital plus (with HDMI output)
  • removable cover(shell) and battery
  • 16Gb internal + Micro-SD reader
