For Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 users only. For this method I recommend changing your product code using Nemesis Service Suite (NSS).
Warning: do not disconnect your phone during software update installation
Warning: Do not change any info of your phone aside from the steps I mentioned below. you may damage your phone.
Note: Move your important data such as contacts and messages to your memory card
Note: After finishing step 16 restore your original product code or else your warranty to nokia will be void.
1. Download your NSS here http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk
2. Write down your phone product code located at the back when you open your battery pack then connect your Nokia 5800 via Nokia PC Suite.
3. Extract NSS and run the the NSS.exe file
4. Run your Nokia PC Suite program
5. On PC Suite Menu bars click Settings > Manage connections then uncheck USB Cable checkbox (you'll be disconected from PC Suite)
6. Go back to NSS program click the lense icon located at the upper right side ("scan for new device"). Your phone infos will be loaded then. You should see status "Ready" flashing on the status bar.
7. Click the "Phone Info" icon (a nokia 6600 icon).
8. Click "Read" button to load your production data. Your phone info such as Product Code, HW version etc will then be shown. Focus only with Product Code.
9. Now change your product code. Choose any of the following base on the color edition of your phone
0573738: Euro1 ALPS Black
0559368: Euro1 ALPS BLUE
0559054: Euro1 ALPS RED
0573733: Euro1 Black
in my case I used 0573733.
10. Copy and paste the new product code to the existing product code of your phone. Check the checkbox "Enable" after the textbox of your product code. Then press "Write" button.
Note: If you encounter "Reading values...Error!" during write, try to remove your memory card and do the steps again.
11. Wait for the status "Done" on the status bar
12. Go back to your Nokia PC Suite program then on PC Suite Menu bars click Settings > Manage connections > check USB Cable checkbox this time. You will be connected again to PC Suite.
13. Now run Nokia Software Updater the one "Update phone software".
14. Your phone can now detect version 40.0.005. Update your phone software
15. If update successfully completed reformat your phone first or restore factory settings by pressing *#7370# enter your lock code. (If not set default lock code is 12345)
16. Restore your contacts and message to your phone memory
Enjoy with the new look of your phone!

I updated the firmware and after I tried to enter the original value for the Product Code . So I followed the same steps with NSS but this time I get the message :"Reading values...Error!" every time I click the Read button. How can I set the original value ? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi echo! Deaf Android experienced the same. What he did was he just removed the memory card then do the steps again and it he was successfully updated his Nokia 5800 XM to v50.0.005. Well try it also. Hope this works this time.
ReplyDeletequestion: When will I change back the code to its original product code? Is it even necessary? thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, never mind. I did not notice I skipped one of your notes. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi eds! If the time period of your warranty to Nokia has already ended it doesn't matter if you don't restore your original product code as I did. But don't forget to keep your original product code maybe you will need it someday.
ReplyDeleteOk, I have carefully followed the steps here. But when I reached step13 that is when problem came. It says that Nokia Software Updater cannot locate my device.. What do you think happened? I checked the USB cable in Nokia PC Suite just like what you have written here. But everytime I try to click the Update Phone Software, my phone disconnects from PC Suite on its own and then reconnects. I hope you can help me. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHi eds. If you are using Windows Vista it's really the sickness of Vista. There are drivers incompatibility issues. You can solve the problem by just uninstalling all the programs related to Nokia including PC Suite and Ovi Suite. To easily see all nokia products on the list of installed programs (Control Panel>Programs and Features) click the Publisher header to sort the programs installed. Then after successfully uninstalled all nokia products restart your pc. If you have CCleaner the better for you just look for Registry issues then solve all. If you don't have CCleaner it's OK. Then reinstall PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater only. Do not install Ovi Suite. Or you can try updating your your software via FOTA by pressing *#0000# then check for update.
ReplyDeleteEds, I had the same problem at first. When you connect your phone via USB don't select any of the USB connection options that appear on its screen , just hit cancel and then wain a few minutes. Worked for me...
ReplyDeletehi.. ntry q tgnan if my available update sa 5800xm q via NSU, ngappear dun New Version available pero wla nkindicate dun if ano ung new version available.. nagiisip aq kung iuupdate q hnd... Hnd q alam Kung v40 or v50 un. my current version is v31
ReplyDeleteHi...You don't have to worry about if you update to latest version even though it seems you haven't seen the version details. It is the feature of your mobile to detect higher version.
ReplyDeleteHello. I successfully updated my 5800 to v50 pero hindi kumpleto yung changelogs na nabasa ko for the said version. What's the best product code to use sa 5800 ko para kumpleto yung changelogs? Thanks.
ReplyDeletehi victor! Actually until now it is really unclear whether all of the so-called change logs are true. The video of an indian whom we followed about this update appeared to have hacked his phone. No product code have been proven to have complete change logs. Thanks for visiting my site. Keep visiting!
ReplyDeleteboss bka pde mag upload u ng step by step video pano mpalitan ung v 31 to 40. d ako mklagpas s step 5-6 mo. sorry baguhan plang ako.
ReplyDeletehi. Actually we are now on version 50.0.005. The trick of this post applies also to that version. I'll post screenshots for your guide. Would that be ok for you? I'll post them maybe tomorrow.
ReplyDeletetnx boss. n dl ko n ung nss program. kaso pag dating step 6 d madetect ung unit ko. mali kya ung installation ko sa nss program? dami kasi option dun.
ReplyDeleteHi Kit...I'll help you maybe before this week ends. I'm so busy with my work today and maybe tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteNeed help, it seems that nsu does not stops downloading its now reading 171mb and counting. What to do next, tnx
ReplyDeleteHi... The file size of v50 is only about 146mb. I guess there something wrong with your internet connection. Have your tried updating through FOTA? Try it. Press *#0000# on your dialer then select option>Check for Update.
ReplyDeleteHi...You can use just any of the product code I mentioned on the steps. Actually it doesn't matter which color you should use.
ReplyDeleteyes kaso no new updates laging lumalabas pag *#0000#. I did follow all the steps kaso yung nadedect is v 3.1 p rin.
ReplyDeleteIn that case your Phone is one a network provider variants. I suggest do not update through FOTA. Just download PC Suite update your phone through NSU
ReplyDeletePano po ba mag update tru NSU, sir? Maraming salamat po sana matulungan nyo ako?
ReplyDeleteConnect your phone to your pc via pc suite just Click the icon of Software Updater on your PC Suite...
ReplyDeletefirmware version
ReplyDeletecurrent: 31.0.101
update: 31.0.101
Are you sure that you have changed your product code? Check it again. Reload your phone info on NSS then see if the product code have changed. Try to check if you really followed all the steps prescribed above
ReplyDeleteHi you can text me. Just go to my facebook profile I have my mobile number there. Will sort it out how you can solve your problems
ReplyDeleteHi no success updating to v50, already change the product code. Tried FOTA but v31 is showing, v50 is shown using NSU but has no success downloading it. Kinda frustrating hehe, any help? Tnx
ReplyDeleteHi Den. What do you mean no success downloading?
ReplyDeleteIts unsuccessful after reaching arnd 140mb(error shows) ,not sure if it has to do w/ my internet connection but had tried several times doing it. I hav installed ovi suite and it shows no updates avail, v31 is on my fone ryt now. Kinda weird when PC Suite is showing v50 while ovi suite shows v31. Any workaround for this?
ReplyDeleteI suggest use another PC for your update. I usually suggest don't install ovi suite. It's better that you have only PC Suite and NSU installed on your PC. :)
ReplyDeleteOk will do, thanks. Great page for 5800 users.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap it works! I was skeptic at first with all the 3rd party and product code manipulation. I thought it would entirely ruin the phone since Nokia might have some encryption. Anyhow, I followed all the steps but had problems while running NSU that it could not detect my unit like some of the people here. So I followed echo's advise that when i connect the cable just press cancel and it would successfuly detect the phone once you run NSU. Thanks Jobzky and echo.
ReplyDeleteWow nice to hear that Simon! It's really the sickness of nokia drivers to most PC that's why we need various tricks to work it out. :)
ReplyDeletehi jobsky thx for ur support but i wanna ask if ur firmware v50.0.005 support arabic language or not ? if not is there any thing i can do to make it supported wz arabic? and what about the codes r they suitable for my country Egypt?
ReplyDeleteHi haitham!
ReplyDeleteLanguage supported is based on product code that you have. The above product codes that I gave support only some European language. Below are product codes that support Arabic language. You can choose any of them.
0588665: AE Ramadan Arabic MENA-A BLACK
0588668: AE Ramadan Arabic MENA-A RED
0588739: AE Ramadan Arabic MENA-A BLACK
0588652: Ramadan Arabic EUMENA-A BLUE
hi jobzky,
ReplyDeleteim interested in updating my firware and your advice here greatly helps... I just have a quick
question though... I had my 5800 unlocked and had it openlined... will updating my firmware keep it openlined or will it be back to network-locked?
thanks
Hi eddie!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure about this but as far as I'm concerned software update upgrades only the firmware of your mobile phone. The upgrade includes:
*fixing of bugs found on previous version
*adding new features and services
For my opinion it doesn't affect the phone locking status. But to be sure have second opinion from others who are also familiar with software update.
hi sir!
ReplyDeleteso to avoid the "Reading values...Error!" is it recommended to remove the memory card before starting the whole process?
thanks! :) -karen
thx Jobzky
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNgey you dont need this trick anymore since available na ang v50 sa Pinas. Just update via NSU or FOTA
ReplyDeleteay thanks!! mii bayad ba kung wi-fi update pre?
ReplyDeleteI switched my product code to about six different codes that I had read had v50 already, and every single time NSU and FOTO said there were no updates available to my v40 5800 xm. I would read the product code using NSS, and the new codes had taken, but for some reason the updates were not available. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeletekuya. anu ung kulay kulay na yan para malaman ung code? ung aking color nng fone eh all black..
ReplyDeleteNo need to use the tricks since version 50 is now available just use Nokia Software Updater (NSU) or via Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) just press *#0000# on your dialer then check for updates
ReplyDeleteHello. I have a Black 5800 RM-428 (with original code 0577454 and version v40) which I have succesfully changed to codes 0573733 and 0573738 with NSS (tried both codes). Nevertheless, using windows 7 and Nokia updater 2.5.2 en-us I have not been able to detect the update to v50. I have also tried *#000# and it also says no update available. Can you help?
ReplyDeleteHi this update is only available for RM-356
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot bro..
ReplyDeleteDoes this work to update from v50 to v51?
ReplyDeleteThis trick works for the latest also or version 51
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
ReplyDeleteThanks alot, although my 12month warranty is already expired. I still revert my product code to its original product states thus maybe psychologically it will make my product original and more faster thus not contradicting any codes from other country that are not compatible. Im still checking your blog time to time, knowing if theirs any latest nex fw update to this device. Anyway I sold my iphone 4 for this, making me nokia 5800 + zune hd. totally taking apple of my life!. although i have to admit those apple device makes me more addict! buying every applications and wasting it by checking itunes time to time for some wasted software and wasting my time for some important meetings.
ReplyDeletemy nokia software updater can't locate my usb connection. do i have to close the nss first? thanks
ReplyDeletethe nokiapc suite tells me i am connected via usb but the software updater is not locating the phone connection
ReplyDeleteUpdated from v41 to v52 thanks jobzky thanks a lot mate. but i think you should also post in the instructions that one who's going trough this hacking update process should close nss after changing the code number at the back of battery otherwise after one ticks the usb option in pc suite, the pc suite will not see the phone unless nss is closed. it happened to me just today and after three times of failure on pc suite discovering my device i've decided to try this one last time and it worked. thanks again for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteHi blastewitz! Thanks for sharing this info. User experience vary from one another. Your info helps others who will encounter the same problem. Cheers
ReplyDeleteNo problem mate! Anytime i can i will help. One more thing. After updating and restoring my backup from memory card the restore bit stopped at 59%. I've stopped the backup process. And now my phone is quite slow the scrolling down in the application menu is not as i've seen it on youtube videos. Can you give me any advice on this? should i reformat again my phone and memory card and reinstall apps as i go along? thanks again. Adrian.
