Nokia to release mobile phones running Symbian^3 & Symbian^4

Goodbye to S60 3rd and 5th Editions. Welcome new versions of Symbian OS:

Symbian^2
Symbian^3
Symbian^4

Nokia announced already devices to run on these platforms. Basically, S60 5th Edition is the base of the upcoming versions. In fact S60 5th Edition is called Symbian^1.

Nokia will focus on getting Symbian^3 phones to market. Symbian^3 this is the first fully open source version of Symbian, following the completion of the release of the entire Symbian codebase earlier. The Symbian^3 release introduced new features such as HDMI support, a new 2D and 3D graphics architecture, and UI improvements.

The upcoming mobile phones includes:

Nokia X10. It's feature includes 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, 5-Megapixel camera with LED flash, a choice of 16GB or 32GB internal memory, 256MB of RAM, HSDPA support, Wi-Fi, GPS and support for multiple Homescreens.

Nokia E7. No mention of processor speed at this stage but memory will consist of 256MB or RAM, 1024MB of ROM. The rumor rounds out with a claim of launch and on-sale of July 2010.

Nokia N8-00 12MP. 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and HDMI output.

On the other hand Nokia X9 will run Symbian^4. The Nokia X9 is believed to be the successor to the Nokia X6, complete with a 1GHz Cortex A8 chipset, 12-megapixel camera with LED flash, HDMI and a 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.

Elsewhere there’s HSDPA, WiFi and aGPS, along with 32GB of onboard storage and a 3.5mm headphone socket. The Symbian^4 device is expected to be capable of 720p HD video recording, and has some nifty social networking status updates too – along the bottom of that sizeable display run a series of icons for Twitter, Facebook, calls and messages, with a number indicating how many are unread or unanswered.

  2. Amoled means your mobile display or screen has no back light. Instead the display or your screen itself produces the light. A capacitive touchscreen panel consists of an insulator such as glass, coated with a transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide (ITO). Samsung i8910 Omnia HD used this one.
